TGIF, bye February

It is February 27 - one day, ONE day away from March. I get that February is a short month so technically it does go by faster, but I truly feel like this February has flown by. Of course part of that could be the fact that what seems like the entire eastern United States has had at least a solid week of being snowed in.
Here are a few things I've been up to this week - how has your week been?

1. DietBet

Have y'all ever heard of DietBet? I feel like for a while it was popping up in a lot of fitness magazines as one of the "great ways to motivate yourself" options. I had personally ignored it because I wasn't sure I trusted actually betting money on the internet, and conceitedly thought I didn't need to lose enough weight to warrant the risk. I. Was. Wrong.
I have this friend who is on and off a new diet every other week, not in an unhealthy way, but more in an "I love food" kind of way. I get her. But, recently she's decided to really take things under control so she signed up for DietBet and was telling me all about it, and after the aforementioned week long snowday spend mostly eating and drinking, I thought maybe it wasn't such a bad idea. So I signed up, for two different bets. They have the option for you to lose 4% in 4 weeks or 10% in 6 months. I thought to jump start the process, I'd do the 6 month one as well as the 4 week one. I am so excited! My official start date on the 4 week one was February 24, so I have until March 24 to lose 4% of my body weight. I am so looking forward to feeling better (and lighter) and will be happy to share any information about this with any of you who might be interested. Honestly, I was a little skeptical at first, but I am really hopeful in the end results. [not sponsored, I'm just legitimately this excited that I had to share it with y'all!]

2. Composites

So we had law school composites this week. Let me just say that sorority and high school senior pictures were way easier. You just had to show up in a tank top, put the cape on, and make sure your hair, makeup, and pearls were in place. Law school composites comparatively were such a hassle having to actually wear a suit jacket and blouse. I know it probably looks nicer, but after four years of something four times easier, it was just slightly on the annoying side. Okay, end rant.

3. Registry

So you know how last Friday I mentioned we were going to register at Belk on Sunday? Well, thanks to all of the snow that came last week, and the fact that the South is sorely unprepared for more than a few inches of snow, the roof caved in. I didn't even know that was possible, except that one time it happened to an NFL dome. But seriously? When my friend called to tell me I almost didn't believe her.
Luckily there is another one about 45 minutes away and since I was so determined to get the process started we headed up there and luckily were able to at least get our feet wet. I had no idea there were so. many. thing to decide. Not only do you have to decide how plush you want your towels to be, but also what color, and how many. Then, in addition to regular dinnerware and china, there are serving dishes and platters to choose from. I am looking so forward to this because it means we are planning what our future home will be. However, next time we head out to mark a few things off the list we're definitely going to do some research before we get to the store. Do y'all have any registry tips?

4. Free Weekend

This is the first weekend since school started back in January that we have no plans. Zero. And I couldn't be happier. The last two months have been a whirlwind, and I'm so excited to know that we are going to get to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday, and I can finally get some things done around the apartment that I've been dying to tackle. I'm one of those people that needs to have a huge block of time available to complete a big task. I totally see the benefit of just cleaning up 15 minutes a day or whenever you have time, but sometimes I think it's just time for a deep cleaning and I need 6 hours to do that. This might be the first time that I am this excited not to have plans!

5. Contouring

Okay. So I am not trying to look like Kim K., but I would like to figure out how to contour just to make my face look a little brighter and less tired looking. You know what I mean? A few months ago I received the perfect highlighter in a Birchbox and have been obsessed since. Of course when I wasn't looking, it seemed like there were contouring tutorials everywhere I looked. Last weekend I was trying to find one before Barristers to try out and couldn't find anything that I felt comfortable doing - i.e. that was simple. So here's my plea, if y'all come across a relatively easy/well explained tutorial please send it my way!

BONUS: I think I've mentioned it before, but if you don't already, you should seriously consider subscribing to The Skimm. I'm not even sure anymore how I first found out about it, but it's a news outlet of sorts. They send an email to you every morning with the prior day's top stories and the most concise (and witty) explanation you could ask for. It seriously takes less than 10 minutes to read, but you get so much quick news. Plus, it his my inbox no later than 7am, usually earlier, so it is perfect to read on your commute to work (assuming you aren't driving!) or while you're enjoying your morning coffee. Seriously, sign up. You won't regret it!

Just in case you aren't enticed already, here's an excerpt from earlier this week:

Have a great weekend, y'all!

Interview Tips: What to Wear

As I was choosing my outfit for our composite pictures tomorrow, I was thinking about how much I was dreading putting on that suit (or at least the jacket). I seriously wish something else was acceptable for us to wear to an interview, but alas - at least for now - a suit is the expected attire. Before I went through recruitment, there was a fashion show for what to wear and what not to wear for reach round - I really think this should be implemented into law school as well. There are so many people who have never had to go to an interview before, or at least not an interview for a professional job. That being said, in addition to a suit there are a few more rules that should generally be followed when you're dressing for an interview - especially in the legal field.

1. Dark Neutral Suit

For an interview, a dark suit is really your best option. Dark neutrals are more formal and more appropriate in this setting. I have a navy suit, as well as a gray suit that I can wear. Black is acceptable as well, but can come off as a little too harsh sometimes, so sticking to something more like charcoal or navy is usually a better option.  I'll be honest, and I think most girls would agree, I hate wearing suits and feel like I don't look my best because it's not what I'm comfortable in. However, for an interview, especially in the legal field, suits are expected and it's a risky game to play not to wear a suit.

2. A Relatively Plain Blouse

There is some debate about this, but I have always been told, and personally believe that sticking to solid shirts are the best way to go. That being said, I have worn a striped oxford with my suit - and ended up getting that job - so rules are meant to be broken. The point here is really that you do not want to walk in to an interview in a bright neon shirt or a floral shirt. I get that for some of you it might seem like  you're having to hold back your personal style, and you might be, but again, this is the expectation and there are other ways to can shine without letting your appearance be the only thing they remember.

3. Natural Make Up

Soft, natural, and neutral. That really should be the outlook on your entire look - and the same still applies to makeup. Ideally, a little mascara and some lip color is enough. If you truly feel like you want to wear foundation to cover up some blemishes, make sure that it matches your skin and still looks natural, and the same goes for any eyeshadow and blush. You don't want to look like you're going to the bars, you want to look like someone is going to sit for the bar. (Excuse the poor attempt at a joke, I couldn't help it!)

4. Minimal Jewelry

In case you haven't heard, there is a "5 piece rule" when it comes to jewelry. It's really pretty self explanatory, you should wear no more than 5 pieces of jewelry when you go for an interview - there is some debate as to wether earrings count as one or two! This is also not the time to pull out your statement necklaces or giant dangle earrings. Keep it simple, pearls or other studs, a watch - only if you can keep yourself from looking at it, and perhaps an understated necklace. Similar to the other things listed above, you don't want them to remember you for what you looked like or what you wore, you want them to remember you for what you said and what you did.

5. Heels. Shoes You Can Walk In

I feel 100x better when I am in heels, it's like I am on top of the world and can do anything I want. Not everyone feels this way, and not everyone has decided its worth the pain. However, pain aside, you need to make sure that you can walk in the shoes you decide to wear. Sometimes it might not matter because you think you just have to walk in and walk out and the rest of the time you're sitting down. But keep in mind that occasionally you'll be meeting with more than one person in the office and you might be the one moving around, or they might want to give you a tour of the office. When this happens you don't want to look like Bambi learning to walk. So, I would highly recommend heels, but if you are going to make a fool of yourself, wear flats, or hey - try out some nice wedges - I don't mean the kind with a hemp or cork heel, but the kind that look just like heels, except they have a wedge instead, something like this. The last thing you want to do is fall on your face.

Do you have an interview coming up? If so, good luck!! What else would you add to this list?

Have a Great Day, Y'all!
xoxo

spring? where are you?

I. Am. So. Over. This. Weather. I know, I know, it could be worse, and Boston and the rest of the north east has been dealing with this for weeks already, but no one here knows what to do when it goes on for this long. Example: remember how I said we were going to start our registry process this weekend? Well. The roof caved in at Belk! CAVED IN. Luckily there is another one about an hour away, but I am very much a planner and had a small bout of anxiety when my friend called to tell me about it.
Anyways, to get over these winter blues I just let myself get lost in all of the spring dresses that I cannot wait to wear! I generally prefer dresses, really year round, because I think it is just so much easier to throw one thing on, rather than having to pick out the whole outfit. Here are a few that I have my eye on (as if I don't already have enough).

H&M
[apparently now sold out, but is available in other colors]

Belk
I love this dress from Belk! I saw it when we were there yesterday and I will say that in person you can see the navy layer underneath a little more, so it is not so pink, but it still look great. And it has pockets - what more could you ask for?
Lilly
The bright colors and contrast on this dress are perfect!
Belk
Like the other dress from Belk, the coloring on this is a little different in person than online. It actually appears a lot more orange in person - but still looks very nice and made me very ready for spring when I saw it.
Gap
Gap is so hit or miss when it comes to whether they'll have dresses that are to my taste. I used to love love love Gap and I still mostly do, but sometimes their looks are just a little too much for me - does that make sense? But I am loving this dress they have right now, and I've purchased a few of their fit and flares and absolutely love them!
Lilly
This is may favorite of all of these dresses. If I thought I had an occasion to wear it, I'd already have it in my closet. I just love how it has such clean lines and is bright, but not over the top. I'm sure I'll come up with a reason to need this sooner or later!

How are you all dealing with winter? Any spring looks that you're dying to pull out?

Have a great day, y'all!!

TGIF, Law School Prom

Happy Friday, y'all! It has been a longggg cold week around here, how has your week been?

1. SugarWish

My fiance really knows the way to my heart - SUGAR. Have y'all ever heard of Sugarwish? I don't remember which blog I first saw it reviewed on, but I knew the minute I saw it I had to have it. The problem is, it is technically supposed to be a gift, so I made sure to casually hint a time or two at how cool I thought it was - luckily it worked! Any ways, if you haven't heard of it, Sugarwish is a gift box that lets you send someone candy, but they get to choose what kind. Here's how it works: 1. You purchase the Sugarwish and send it to the lucky recipient either via e-mail or USPS, 2. The recipient receives a code that he or she can then use to redeem for the candy of their choice with no additional costs - shipping or otherwise; 3. The recipient awaits impatiently for a few days for the candy to arrive at their door step. So. Easy. & So. Appreciated!

2. Barrister's Ball

Barrister's Ball is fondly known around here, and I would assume other law schools, as "Law School Prom." The biggest difference in this and high school prom is that we're actually allowed to drink at this function, and maybe that finding a date is a little less awkward. Either way, it is always a great time! The last two years we've gone to someones apartment or house before the event to pre-game, you know in case the open bar isn't enough, and sometimes that is even more fun than the actual event. It is also extremely entertaining to see the dynamic among the different classes when we're outside of the brick walls at school. I am especially excited about this year's Barrister's because it is 3L and we're having it at the Derby Museum which is going to be amazing! Plus I've been waiting all week to wear this dress and get out of the house - hopefully it will warm up a little bit for us, otherwise there are going to be a lotttt of cold girls wearing their date's jackets.

3. SNOW DAY

Class was cancelled Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with a two-hour delay on Wednesday and it. was. magical. Tuesday I still had to go in to work for 5 or 6 hours, but I didn't mind that because I actually had work to do and it just meant my paycheck wasn't going to suffer because of the snow. But having the day off on Monday was so nice especially after a super busy weekend with the future in-laws in town. I did start to get a litttttle stir crazy, but I think a snow day is good for the mind every now and then. Personally I don't know how everyone in the Northeast has been coping with weeks of snow days, I think I would actually go crazy. Are any of y'all up there? What have you done to occupy the time?

4. Nail Polish

Luckily my fiance lives about 400 feet from a Kroger, so despite the 12"+ of snow, we were able to get out and pick up some things we needed/just get out of the apartment for a bit. I decided to reward myself with some new "snow day nail polish" - as if I needed a reason for new nail polish. Anyways, I got this Sally Hansen nail polish in "Reef Raf" and I am obsessed with it! It's pretty bright for this time of year, but a little color never hurt any one. What do y'all think?

5. Registry

We're going to a registry event at Belk on Sunday and I am so excited! We've looked at a few things that we want to register for, but haven't really sat down and gone through everything yet or seriously considered certain items. I am sure it will be somewhat of a stressful ordeal just trying to figure it all out, but I am really excited to move forward in our plans and think about what our future home will include :) Do y'all have any registry tips? I have done some research, but I still feel like I am going to be surprised by the whole process. I would love to hear about any experiences - good or bad - that you've had as a bride or a guest that stood out!

Have a great weekend, y'all!
xoxo

P.S. - today is exactly ONE YEAR until our wedding!!

Wedding Wednesday, 367 days to go

7 Things No One Tells You About Getting Engaged

1. You Might Not Cry. And that's okay!

I'll be honest. I was a little sad that I didn't cry when he was down on one knee. I mean this was supposed to be the moment, right? But then I realized, that it was okay. I'm not always the "happy crier" and I was actually speechless - which for me says a lot! Apparently I didn't even say "yes" immediately, but instead just nodded excitedly because that was all I could get out. You can read all about it here. Seriously though, everyone reacts differently, so don't worry if you don't produce what you think is the expected or usual reaction. I can tell you that it was still very clear to him just how excited I was and that my nod was just as good as a blubbery yes!

2. People Will Expect You to Have a Date Set.

Crazy, I know. You will be surprised how many people that you call immediately after, I'm talking within the hour, will ask you if you've set a date. My advice here - maybe have a date in mind if you know that you are only going to be engaged as long as it takes to plan a wedding, or just say, "we just got engaged! Of course we haven't had time to set a date yet!" Do whatever you think is best, just be ready for that question - it'll get asked!

3. Phone Calls Take Longer Than You Think.

My fiance had done a lot of research on how to approach an engagement. (I had no idea such a thing even existed.) He said he read a lot of things about making sure that I had time to call everyone between the engagement and dinner (how he planned it), and I still ran out of time. He finally had to tell me to start getting ready for dinner and I actually called one of our friends on the way to dinner because I wanted to tell everyone as soon as I could. You might have a list of people that you know you'll call as soon as it finally happens, but there will always be a few others you think of along the way. Plus, when you haven't called your grandmother in a few weeks, she's going to want to talk about how everything else in your life is going too. Just embrace it, it's great. I was so anxious and excited with every call that I made. I was so happy and I wanted everyone to know, just plan accordingly and be ready to call your girls on speaker phone while you're still trying to put on some make up :)

4. Unfortunately, It Does Come with Some Stress.

See #3 above. There suddenly seems to be 100 decisions that need to be made. How many bridesmaids? How many guests? What colors? What kind of food? You get the point. While there are certain things that do need to be decided relatively soon after you get engaged, i.e. a date, there are plenty of others that can wait. Within a week of getting engaged we already had our date and church picked out and just knowing that, it meant we also knew we had over a year to plan and were able to relax about everything else for a while. Let yourself enjoy being engaged before you start stressing yourself about everything that you're eventually going to have to do.

5. Everyone Has an Opinion.

Again, see #s 3 & 4 above. It was amazing to me how soon the ideas started coming to me via Pinterest, and else where. Initially it was great because I had absolutely no idea what to do or what I wanted. However, as we have started making some firm decisions, any other opinion makes me feel like my idea wasn't good enough or wasn't right. Those feelings have a lot to do with me being sensitive and generally indecisive, but either way the opinions still seem to come in like a flood - so just be prepared.

6. He Was Probably More Nervous Than You Realized.

Girls, give him a break. Tell him you love him, tell him it was perfect, tell him to breathe. Right after he popped the question and I had finally regained my ability to talk, I told him that the ring was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen and if it was exactly what I would have picked out. He told me that was the second most relieved he'd been that day! They are nervous. They are scared. We might think that's silly because of course you want to say yes, but they might not realize that, so make sure they know because it will go a long way.

7. You're Still Going to Have Some Fights.

See #4. Immediately following the engagement is pure bliss. You want to tell everyone and they all want to know. You are showing your ring off so much that you get offended when the guy bagging your groceries doesn't ask to see it. It's great. But then the planning process starts, the future in-laws suddenly are more opinionated, and nothing seems to go how you want it. It's okay. Things happen, you don't always agree, and an engagement isn't meant to fix that. Just keep in mind that you are planning one day, and what is really going to matter is the rest of your lives. So maybe you can't have the sage napkins and have to settle with mint? It's. Okay. Y'all love each other and you have eternity to plan a dinner party with sage napkins. I think fights are okay because as passive aggressive as I might be, I'd much rather (eventually) get something out rather than let it all build up in side me because one way or another, it is going to come out.

For any newly engaged brides-to-be, or those planning ahead, I hope this helps. I was honestly so surprised by most of these things and wish I'd had some kind of heads up!
What are some things about engagement or even newlywed life that you weren't expecting?

Happy Wednesday, y'all!
xoxo

winter whites, aka a place holder for spring

As I sit here on this snow day, I can't help but yearn for the warmer days of spring. After five years of living in South Carolina, I think I had let myself forget just how cold and annoying winters in Kentucky can be. The worst part is how long I have to wait to wear my favorite Lilly dresses and pastels. Luckily, winter white has become a real thing and keeps things bright during this dreary season.

Here are a few of my favorites keeping me occupied while I'm waiting to pull out my seersucker :)

sequin sweater
sequin sweater -- I received this sweater for Christmas (after a lot of well placed hints) and I am in love with it! It is SO warm, while still looking cute and put together. Plus it is such a nice, light white color that it keeps the dreary winter days nice and bright - a necessity in my book

colored cords
colored cords -- I have about five pairs of colored cords and I am always looking for more. Corduroy tends to be considered more of a winter/fall material so it still works well for this time of year, but you can play with that and use them as a great way bring some color back when it feels like spring is an eternity away
colorblock sweater
colorblock sweater -- this piece might be sightly more spring than winter, but it is a sweater, so that means you can wear it now, right?
fit & flare dress
fit & flare dress -- pairing a pastel with black is always a great way to make it work in the winter while still adding a pop of color to your wardrobe and fit and flare dresses look great on everyone!
pixie ankle pants
pixie ankle pants -- How cute is this color?? These pants are currently on sale for $30 and they have them in a dozen colors - what more could you want?

How do you bring in color to your winter wardrobe? Or do you love and embrace the chance to wear all of the dark colors that the season will allow?

Have a great day y'all & stay warm!

Winter Formal Dresses

During the spring semester in law school we have what our school calls Barrister's Ball, I think it is a pretty common thing among law schools, whether it be in the fall or spring. Essentially, it's Law School Prom. I personally love it because I will take any chance I can to put on a pretty dress and doll myself up. One of my favorite parts is picking out a dress to wear. Most of the time I get a new dress, but I still try to make it something that I think I can wear again.

In undergrad there was always a function to go to and choosing a dress was the high light for me. It was always a good excuse to buy a new dress or some new jewelry to go with something you already had.

While it was (and is) always a ton of fun, it can definitely be stressful trying to decide what to wear, what your date should wear, and making sure that you and your friends are all relatively on the same page because you don't want to stand out as the one who is way over dressed and especially not the one who is under dressed.

At least for us, the dress tends to be cocktail attire +, so there is always a wide range of dresses, which I think is great. There are people who love to go bold, while others tend to stick to the basics and they all look absolutely wonderful. If you are trying to save money, or just have a LBD you really love, this event is a great time to play with some statement jewelry to still feel like you're wearing something new. One of the best parts about having this event every year is the opportunity to change things up and try things that might normally be outside of your comfort zone. Plus - what a great reason to wear all of the glitter and sequins you can get your hands on!

Below are a few of my favorites this season, including the dress I've chosen - which is currently on sale!

TGIF, Happy Valentines Day, Y'all!

I can finally breathe - things around here are starting to slow down and get back to a routine and I am so grateful for that. As a big planner, I cringe when there is constant chaos, which is essentially what the last few months have been. Some good, some bad, but certainly chaotic nonetheless. There were a lot of quick updates earlier this week, as well as my favorite update - my engagement! But I think it is still so important to consider each week five things to be thankful for, excited about, etc. - living a positive life is one of the most beneficial things we can do for our own state of mind, as well as those surrounding us.

1. Moot Court is Over

For those of you also in law school, you're probably well aware of the time commitment that comes with Moot Court. For those who are not, let me provide a brief explanation of the process: for this particular competition we were responsible for writing a brief for the position of our choosing, and preparing arguments for both the Petitioner and Respondent. After writing the (25 page long) brief, we then have to start practicing our arguments for both sides, for a couple of hours -  multiple times a week. It was 110% worth it, but I am just so glad to have some of my "free" time back to run errands, read for class, and more importantly - sleep! -- Side note: Moot Court is similar to the undergraduate Mock Trial competitions, except there are dozens of areas of law that you can complete in. Anyways, it was a wonderful experience and I am so lucky that I had the opportunity to travel to Florida in the middle of winter, but I am definitely ready to have one less thing on my plate!

2. Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. It's probably due in part to the fact that I've almost always had someone to share it with, so I've never had a reason to be bitter about it. But, I also think its because there is nothingggg going on this time of year, most of the Christmas spirit is gone, and it's just plain cold. In comes Valentine's Day to perk everyone, okay almost everyone, back up. It's also probably because there are few things I love more than chocolate, so for me this holiday is definitely one of my favorites! What kind of plans do y'all have for Valentine's Day?

3. Future In-Laws In Town

This weekend my fiance's parents are coming into town and I am so excited. We have such a full weekend ahead, but I am really looking forward to it. They've been wanting to come up for a UofL game for a while, and this weekend that all finally worked out. Plus - they haven't seen the Yum Center yet, where U of L's games are played, and it is awesome, so I'm excited to see their reactions. As someone who grew up going to SEC games, the concept of having alcohol and sporting events was so foreign to me, but as a member of the Big East, then American Athletic, and now the ACC, the Yum Center is allowed to serve drinks at UL games. Obviously this is not the most important reason to go, but with Woodford and Kentucky Ale bars inside the concourse, it is really fun.
I'm also looking forward to taking his mom to Louisville Stoneware, a local stoneware factory that has some gorgeous pieces. And of course we're going to have some delicious meals around town - definitely one of my favorite things to do when people come to visit! Some of the last few times we've been with his parents I've felt so stressed because it is just so much wedding talk all the time, so I'm really hopeful that this weekend will have some wedding talk, but more of a relaxed atmosphere.

4. Gym Classes

A few weeks ago one of my friends reached out to me about working out together a couple of times a week to help keep us both accountable and I am so glad she did. Around the same time, I also joined a 24-hour gym, which is beyond great, but it's nice to change it up and workout with her as well. Because we're both still in school, we have access to the University's gym, and fortunately U of L has a great set of classes available to students. So far we've tried out Zumba, Cycling, and Boot Camp. Boot Camp was soooo much more difficult than we thought it was going to be. I mean, I'm not exactly sure what either of us thought we were getting into, but it was very intense and we felt like everyone else in the class was already a pro athlete. Instead of Boot Camp, we tried Cycling this week and it was far more manageable, while still getting in a great hour of cardio - I would highly recommend it. Zumba has also been a lot of fun. My friend was a dancer, so her coordination is about a million times better than mine, but I still love how fast it goes and how different it is from most workouts. This approach works so much better for me because I tend to get bored easily, but with Zumba its a new move and a new song every two-four minutes. I know some people prefer to work out on their own, but these classes have been so great for me over the past few weeks. What are some of your favorite classes? I'm always interested in what others tend to prefer or dislike.

5. Back to the Blog

Y'all I am so excited to be back here and sharing with you! I have always been somewhat creative and in law school there just isn't much of an outlet for that. I miss the days of crafting for my little and making banners for the DH at Furman. This blog has given me some of that creativity back and I love it. I might not be (I know I'm not) the best writer, but hopefully y'all can enjoy some of the stories/advice I share, and if not I'm always open to suggestions. Like I said earlier this week, I do have some ideas in mind for future posts, but if y'all have any other ideas or things you want to know about law school I'll be happy to address those as well.

Have a great weekend, Y'all!

Wedding Wednesday, 374 days to go!

Happy Wednesday, Y'all!

I'm going to try something a little new around here on Wednesdays, "Wedding Wednesday." I hope these weekly updates/features will serve a lot of purposes. First, it will help me keep a running log of the wedding planning and engagement process, which I am trying to enjoy to the fullest! Also, as a first time bride there are so many things that I have no idea how to do or how to choose and I would love love love to hear from any of y'all on what worked for you, what didn't, what you've enjoyed at other weddings you've attended, etc. Seriously, I am willing to take any and all advice.

I am learning there are about a million decisions that have to be made and as someone who is naturally indecisive, I am anticipating that bringing me some stress, but I am trying to make as many decisions off the bat that I can because there are few things I love more than crossing something off of a to-do list.

Here are a few things that we've been able to decide in three short months:

Date:

February 2016

Time:

Early Evening

Location:

My Hometown in Kentucky

Ceremony:

My Church at Home

Reception:

A local venue in town, set on acres of land

Officiant:

My Youth Pastor

Colors:

Grey and Navy - still hoping to include a few lighter colors like sage, blush, etc.
Maybe something like this:
Souce

Registry Locations:

(we've decided this, but have not even started thinking about what to actually register for)

Wedding Party:

We are each going to have seven people in our party (so many!) and they have all been asked and the Maid of Honor and Best Man have also been chosen

There are still some major items that we need to start taking care of soon, things that tend to book up earlier - band, photographer, caterer, etc. We have a lot of ideas on these, but haven't made any definite decisions or put down any deposits yet.

Any advice on how to tame my indecisiveness? - It really is a lifelong struggle, and something I work at on a continuous basis, but wedding planning seems to have brought it all back to the surface. What are some things that y'all thing need to be decided as soon as possible?

Have a great day, y'all!
xoxo

p.s. I've been looking for a "Wedding Wednesday" Link-Up, but haven't been able to find one, so if y'all are aware of one that exists I would love to get involved. Or I'd be more than happy to host one if there is interest and another one isn't available!

the Proposal 11.20.14

Thursday, November 20, 2014. We'd already made dinner plans for the night and he was going to pick me up from class. When I got out of class he wasn't there yet, which made me a little annoyed because it was about 30 degrees outside! When he finally arrived, only 3 minutes late, he had the AC going full blast and said it was because he had been so hot - which I thought was ridiculous since it was SO cold. So we headed back to his apartment because it was a little after 5:30 and weren't quite ready to eat yet.

When we got there he gave me the key to open the door, which I thought was weird because my hands were full with my back pack and tote bag, while he was empty handed, but he kept insisting so I finally gave in and took the keys to open the door. When I walked in I was greeted with more than 50 lit candles, two dozen roses and a dozen lillies. He also had set up pictures of us on the coffee table and had a slide show of pictures on his TV. He made me set all of my stuff down (finally!) and went through his perfectly planned speech before getting down on one knee and proposing! Of course I said yes!

Y'all - I was speechless. Apparently I didn't even say yes initially, but just nodded very excitedly. It was such a perfect gesture and I was so surprised - which was really important to me. I know so many people have it in their head how they want a proposal to go, but I can honestly say I'd never really thought about what the "perfect" proposal would look like. I just always knew I wanted it to be a surprise because I love surprises. Well, let me tell you, I definitely didn't see this coming on a gloomy Thursday afternoon after class. This was my perfect proposal.

He had purchased a few things from Marley Lilly with what will be my new monogram, which he gave to me before dinner.

I, of course, called all of my best friends and my family and they were all so excited - aside from a few of my aunts who thought I was too young! Then he told me all about how he'd driven down to my hometown a few days earlier to ask permission from my mom and dad (like a perfect southern gentleman) and that he was almost as nervous doing that as he was asking me!

He also had champagne chilled and waiting for us and he'd made dinner reservations for a few places in Louisville and let me pick where I wanted to go celebrate, so I chose Ruth's Chris and we enjoyed a WONDERFUL dinner, the majority of which I spent staring at my new ring :)

thanks for following along, y'all! have a great day!

So. Many. Things.

Hey y’all! Wow! It has been a looooongggg time since this blog has seen the light of day. Right before my last post went live, things around here got SO busy. First – I got engaged!! Which is probably one of the most exciting things I have ever experienced. Then of course finals were right around the corner. I thought I was going to have time to catch up some over Christmas “break,” but that was the busiest break I have ever had!

Christmas was so wonderful, and then I went with my fiancĂ©’s (!!!) family to New Orleans – my first time there. Y’all. If you haven’t been to New Orleans, you need to go – ASAP. It was so fun! Even though it was a little colder than we were anticipating (and hoping for), we had such a great time ringing in the new year there.

Soon after we got back from New Orleans it was back to class.  Despite finally being in my 3L spring semester, I have had some tough classes so far – and a moot court competition.

Also, I finally got a sewing machine and I. am. obsessed. There will be much more on this later, as I have already made my own skirt, and let me tell you - I even impressed myself on this one. The machine I got also has an embroidery feature which is awesome - hellllllo monograms!

This weekend we went to Clearwater, Florida to compete in the National Tax Moot Court Competition. It was a great time, and even though we didn’t win, our school advanced further than prior years and according to our coach and the other teams we still had a very impressive performance.

I’m writing this as I’m on the plane back to Kentucky and I am not looking forward to returning to the cold weather at all. However – at the tournament we had the opportunity to meet so many other competitors from other parts of the country and a few girls who are in law school at Suffolk told us they hadn’t been to class more than three days all semester! I cannot imagine having that many snow days. I would go crazy. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely love having a break every now and then, but I can get so restless and to be out of school that long just sounds so miserable.

When I was at Furman we usually had about one snow day each semester. Of course, in South Carolina it only takes a 60% chance of snow for them to cancel class, but it was always a welcomed break. The only negative there is that no one in South Carolina knows how to deal with snow, so it just took a few flakes to shut down the whole city. My roommate didn’t even know how to use the dual scraper/brush. It was certainly an adventure.

Anyways – please accept my apologies for such a lengthy absence. I am working on so may posts for the up coming weeks.

Interview tips – attire, questions, etc. Professional advice – how to get a job, how to network, etc. and a few other miscellaneous law school items. I am also always open to suggestsions so if there is something specific you want to hear about please please please let me know. Either comment below or email me at legallysouthernblog@gmail.com.

Thanks for following along y’all, have a great day!
